CFM56 Market Brief — 17 August 2026

-CFM56 aftermarket demand remains stronger
The clearest confirmed signal comes from both CFM parents. Safran reported on July 28 that civil-engine spare-parts sales rose 27.9% year-on-year in H1 2026, with the increase led notably by CFM56 and a favorable shop-visit workscope mix. GE Aerospace's Q2 results similarly showed commercial-engine spare-parts revenue up more than 25% and internal shop-visit revenue up 25%
-July RFQ/search activity gives useful PN-level buying signals
Recent marketplace searches provide a useful proxy for real RFQ activity. July data showed CFM56 components heavily represented among frequently searched items. Notable demand included:
442653 — Hydromechanical Unit, CFM56-7B , 8063-214 — Main Engine Control, 8061-536 — Engine-control hardware, 338-002-114-0 — Stage 1 fan blade assembly ,,2048M20G03 — Stage 4–9 compressor spool
340-256-252-0 — Stage 1 nozzle segment, 3282970-5 — Variable bleed-valve stop mechanism,3200674-2 — Oil cooler,FMU702-03 — Fuel Metering Unit
-Engine values and lease availability remain unusually firm
IBA's H1 2026 market data indicate how extreme the engine-availability environment remains. For CFM56-5B, indicative market values are reported around $11–13 million, while some long-term lease extensions are being agreed at spot-level rates around $170,000–185,000 per month
-5B versus -7B CFM56-5B — VERY STRONG
Fresh contract activity continues to support the outlook. Lufthansa Technik expanded its Cebu Pacific agreement in July to cover 18 additional CFM56-5B shop events over three years, demonstrating that operators are locking up capacity rather than waiting for the platform to phase out.
- Middle East demand picture
There is a short-term complication: Middle Eastern flight activity has been weakened by regional geopolitical disruption. Reuters reported that Middle East commercial flight activity was 26% lower year-on-year at end-June, despite global flight activity remaining roughly flat. Yet this has not broken the CFM56 aftermarket cycle. GE says parked aircraft have declined rather than increased and CFM56 retirements remain low. Meanwhile new-aircraft backlogs still exceed 18,000 aircraft globally, forcing airlines to keep mature aircraft operating.
